"Death of Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar, From the Original wall painting in the Palace of Westminster" - an iconic panoramic engraving by Charles William Sharpe after painting by Daniel Maclise R.A., published by Art Union of London in 1875.

The Death of Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar is a wall painting in the Royal Gallery of the Palace of Westminster by the artist Daniel Maclise. Daniel Maclise (1806 – 1870) was an Irish historian and portrait painter, and illustrator, who worked for most of his life in London, England. The painting, commissioned by Fine Arts Commission under direct patronage of Prince Albert, shows the dying Admiral Nelson on the deck of HMS Victory, cradled in the arms of Captain Hardy, with other figures, including Dr Beatty, leaning over him. They are surrounded by members of the crew. Maclise interviewed survivors of the battle and researched the naval equipment in use at the time. The Maclise painting was engraved by Charles W. Sharpe in 1876 and published the Art Union of London. It sold widely around the British Empire.

The Battle of Trafalgar (21 October 1805) was a naval engagement fought by the British Royal Navy against the combined fleets of the French and Spanish navies during the War of the Third Coalition (August–December 1805) of the Napoleonic Wars (1803–1815). Twenty-seven British ships led by Admiral Lord Nelson aboard HMS Victory, defeated thirty-three French and Spanish ships of the line under French Admiral Villeneuve. The battle took place off the southwest coast of Spain, just west of Cape Trafalgar. The Franco-Spanish fleet lost twenty-two ships, and the British lost none. Prior to the battle, Vice Admiral of the Royal Navy, Horatio Nelson, has sent his famous signal "England expects that every man will do his duty" from his flagship HMS "Victory".
