Geological Map of the British Isles by Edward Best, Geological Survey.

Classic folding engraved and hand-coloured geological map by Victorian geologist Edward Best; published by Edward Stanford in 1893 at Stanford's Geographical Establishment, 26-27 Cockspur St, Charing Cross, S.W. London. Light key coloured map with good readability.

Edward Best (1824-1906) was a British geologist. He was working for the Geological Survey of Great Britain for the most of his life, being first appointed an Assistant Geologist in 1855, and until retirement in 1893.

Edward Stanford (1827-1904) was a British Victorian publisher and the founder of famous Stanford's publishing company and map-selling shops in London and Bristol, UK. Educated in City of London School, Edward Stanford developed interest in maps while working for Mr Trelawney Saunders maps and stationary shop. In 1853 the Saunders company was dissolved and Stanford took over the business with intent to specialise in maps. At the time, British colonial expansion has created significant demand for maps, and Stanford's Geographical Establishment soon became a leading map publisher and seller in London. Stanford's name became prominent after he published Stanford's Library Map of London, the most accurate map of London to date, which is still being sold, after 150 years.

This poster is a high quality "giclée" reproduction of a restored antique original, custom-printed on Standard Single-weight Matt Coated art paper 140gsm or  Heavyweight Matt Coated art paper 230gsm (more of a thin card density), or superb Epson Matt Canvas 320gsm, according to your choice. We use the latest UltraChromeHDX pigment inks which guarantee 60 years of colour  permanence (up to 200 years fade-proof for colour prints).  This poster is suitable for mounting and framing, as well as direct display on a wall.

All prints are made to order and carefully checked before posting. Our restored charts and maps are exclusive to VictorianMaps and not available anywhere else. There are no watermarks on the prints.

Combined shipping available—add all items to your basket to see the adjusted rate. Any extra postage paid will be refunded.

Returns:
If you're not satisfied, return within 14 days for a full refund.

For framing, we recommend the 230gsm paper or 320gsm canvas. The 140gsm paper is best for DIY framing or wall tacking.
